Why did you apply to be a tutor?

I applied for this role because I love working with pre-teens. Middle school is such a pivotal moment, developmentally. It’s a privilege to be a part of a kid’s journey at that age. I feel like I am always laughing and learning with my students!

What has been your favorite moment while tutoring?

My favorite moments are when I catch a glimpse of my students’ personality. Each one of my students is unique and lovely in their own way: witty, observant, warm, funny and hard-working. I have really enjoyed getting to know them through our lessons.

What is your favorite way to get the students’ attention?

My favorite way to get their attention is by asking them a question that makes them think deeply. For example “If you were president of the U.S. for a day, what would you change about the country and why?” or “What’s good about being your age? And what’s not good about being your age?” or “As a kid, If you could give one piece of advice to all the adults of the world, what would it be?”
