Why did you apply to GO?
I applied to GO because I wanted to work in education, but I wasn’t sure which subject I wanted to teach.
What has been you favorite tutorial moment?
My favorite tutorial moment was when a student created a project on Canva about a wanted cockroach. She used headings, subheadings, dates, and put reward money on the poster. She had so much fun with the project because she could show her creativity and what she learned.
What is your favorite way to connect with the students?
My favorite way to connect with students is through food recipes and natural hair care. I wore my natural hair a lot this year, and students wanted to know what I did to take care of it. They love food and always share recipes with me or show me a video of a person cooking the recipe on YouTube when they have free time.
How did your year of tutoring develop your next steps?
I was able to find out what subject I want to teach. I want to teach all of them! At Center City, I can teach all subjects in a PK 3 – 2nd grade classroom.
How did your year of tutoring develop your professional skills?
My year of tutoring helped me polish my lesson planning and language learning skills. I got an opportunity to learn Spanish and assist a student who is a native Spanish speaker. I wanted to challenge myself to learn Portuguese too, and it is really fun to learn two languages at once.
